Bureau Export Presents the Next Wave of French Talent at SXSW 2016

Supporting French music artists in the US for 20+ years, Bureau Export returns to SXSW this year with an intoxicating lineup featuring several household names in France ready to break through to U.S. audiences. France Rocks is organizing at least three showcases at SXSW 2016, including a Lunch with French Tech at Brush Square Park on Tuesday March 15th, a showcase that evening at Trinity Hall on 6th St, and a Thursdayevening showcase at Central Presbyterian Church.

"This is an exciting year in French music," says Michele Amar, director of Bureauexport New York, "TheFrenchartists who are performing at SXSW offer a stellar glimpse of the innovation and diversity of the current music scene in France. Music fans, professionals, and fellow musicians are going to be in for a treat." In the past, France Rocks has hosted many acts going on to great international visibility, including Stromae, Christine and the Queens, Yelle, Ibeyi, La Femme, Yan Wagner, Revolver, Hindi Zahra and many more.

ALICE ON THE ROOF

Alice on the Roof is a young Belgian artist who shot to fame in her own country with the infectious song, 'Easy Come, Easy Go'. The record was at the top of the charts for eight weeks and became the most-played title in 2015. Now, after releasing an EP of her ethereal pop in the spring, Alice is preparing to release her first album.

THE BLIND SUNS

French dream pop trio, drawing sounds from the likes of Mazzy Star, JAMC, and The Primitives, The Blind Suns caries that Duane Eddy meets Link Wray like guitar sound that sits so well alongside Dorota Kuszewska's captivating vocals. A new record produced by Uk producer Clive Martin (Queen, The Cure, Nick Cave) is to come out in 2016. With the great Jim Rose from Jim Rose Circus as a godfather of the project, The Blind Suns is definitely a fine addition to the world of reverb drenched, rock'n'roll.

COCOROSIE

In their eleven years as CocoRosie, the sisters have released five albums: Tales of A Grass Widow (2013), Grey Oceans (2010), The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn (2007), Noah's Ark (2005), and their first album, La Maison de Mon Reve (2004) -- each one inspiring controversy and debate in equal amounts to praise; such is their fearlessness and willingness to take risks with their art. This strong creative vision runs through every aspect of their work - from videos to live performance utilizing theatrical costumes and make up which they create alongside each new body of songs.

DANIEL ANTOPOLSKY

Daniel Antopolsky (AKA "The Sheriff of Mars" or just "Sheriff" for short) has been making songs for 40 years without ever recording them until the age of 65. He's the missing piece of the Outlaw Country music era he shared with his friend Townes Van Zandt and is also part blues, folk, rock - influenced by gospel and the synagogue - that all blends into a uniquely Optimistic Americana. He lives on a farm near Bordeaux, France and his first album is called "Sweet Lovin' Music". A film about his life called "The Sheriff of Mars" will be completed this year.

ELIDA ALMEIDA

Elida's 's first album, "Ora doci Ora margos" (Sweet Times Bitter Times), is based entirely on the singer's early life and the sweet and bitter experiences that shaped her humble existence. Elida Almeida wrote the words and music of most of the songs on this first record and sings with a touching sincerity that will move all those who identify with her story. With its folk melodies enhanced by Santiago beats (batuque, funana and morna) and uplifted by the subtle arrangements of guitarist Hernani Almeida, this album has the power to roll back frontiers and conquer the world.

FAKEAR

French electronic music has a rich history and one that has broken through internationally at times without the limitations of language of traditional songs. It has been sometime now since a new generation has broken through, and with Fakear a new dawn has broken. Fakear's latest album will is released by Ninja Tune for the USA and UK and by Panthéon / Mercury Music Group / Universal Music France for the rest of the world.

HOOKA HEY
Hooka Hey, a recent addition to Austin by way of Paris, plays blues-based tribal beats with smoky, sludgy riffs drenched and charged like the air just before a rain. Organic and raw, Hooka Hey's "Transylvanian Voodoo" sound evokes artists like Queens of The Stone Age and Jack White.

INDOLORE
Initially attracted to jazz then exploring more pop/folk-based influences like Nick Drake, indie-folk musician Indolore began his career in London in a band called Shine, opening for Sia and Morcheeba and working with Terry Reid. Garnering the attention of English band Morcheeba, Indolore joined that group on an epic tour of Europe. His latest project, the "Positive Girls" EP is available now.

JOON MOON
Joon Moon is a collaboration between Parisian producer Julien Decoret and Krystle Warren, originally from Kansas City. Through various solo albums and collaborative projects with Hercules & Love Affair, Nouvelle Vague, Hugh Coltman, and Rufus Wainwright, Joon Moon's direction started to become clear. After instant musical chemistry, the duo spent a few months in the studio crafting their first EP, Chess, which was released in late 2015. The EP showcases a unique mix of pop and soul arrangements that has left fans anticipating a debut record in 2016.

KITSUNÉ CLUB NIGHT
Kitsuné,"a quality French music label, a clothing brand and so much more" is returning to SXSW in 2016 with one of their world-famous club nights. 'Kitsuné was founded in 2002 in Paris by Gildas Loaëc, Masaya Kuroki and the London-based design company Åbäke, consisting of Patrick Lacey, Benjamin Reichen, Kajsa Ståhl and Maki Suzuki. Loaëc and Kuroki, who both like fashion and music, had the idea of founding a company involved in both areas during a trip to Japan. Before co-founding the company Loaëc worked with Daft Punk and also with Thomas Bangalter's record label Roulé.

KLINGANDE
Champion of the melodic house genre, Cedric Steinmyller - best known as Klingande - has been breathing new life into the electronic music world with his impeccable productions and uplifting sound, cementing his reputation as one of the most refreshing and original producers around today. A welcome departure from the big room house sound that has been dominating the scene of late, Klingande's sublime melodies have earned him recognition from industry heavyweights Kygo, Bakermat, Robin Schulz and Klangkarussel to name just a few.

L.E.J.
Lucie, Elisa and Juliette are childhood friends who share the same passion for music. The girls have been touring in France, Belgium and Switzerland for the last two years and opened for artists like Pharrell Williams, Walk The Earth and Patrice. Summer 2015 marked a new step when their video mashup of their favorite 2015 songs went viral, and was seen by over 24 Million people.

LYS
LYS are a young French rock band formed in Rennes (Brittany) in 2008 with frontman, vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Nicolas Veron being the only constant member. Spotted by NME (UK) and Austin Chronicle (US), the band released a new album 'REDBUD' in 2015, co-written with Craig Walker (Archive), with Steve Hewitt (Placebo) on drums, mixed by Paul Corkett (The Cure, Björk) and mastered by Chab (Daft Punk).

MARINA KAYE
Marina Kaye continues her irresistible rise to stardom. She came to our notice last spring when she made her debut as an artist with a first handful of tracks (the 'Homeless' EP), revealing all her uniqueness and hesitancy. That record was quite enough to draw us in and its subtle blend of power and sweetness is now distilled on her first album: 'Fearless'.
